Hyderabad, Mar 24 (UNI) State Transport Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana today said the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) was charging only 50 per cent extra for Super Luxury buses and the services were operated additionally during special occasions and festival days.
Replying to a question by Graduates Constituency member P R Subba Reddy in the Legislative Council, he said the State Government had permitted APSRTC to charge upto a maximum of one and half times the fare for special services operated on special occasions or on fairs and jatharas in February 2003.
But the corporation was charging only 50 per cent extra on Super Luxury and 30 per cent on Delux and Express services during festival times for operating special services, he pointed out.
He said the practice of collecting extra charges was in force in other state transport undertakings also.
When the members said it was not good on the part of corporation to collect extra charges during festival season when it was earning profits, the Minister said the corporation was collecting additional charges to minimise its burden due to special services.
