Rain continue to lash Delta region in TN
Tiruchirapalli, Mar 22 (UNI) The unseasonal rain continued to lash the Cauvery Delta regions in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu for the seventh consecutive day today.
Agriculture Department sources said Samba harvest had almost been completed and only 7000 acres were to be harvested in Thanjavur district.
Pulses and crops of green gram and black gram in most of the areas of Nagapattinam district were destroyed in the rain.
The low-lying areas of the city were flodded with water and the civic bodies had taken steps to drain out stagnated water.
Moderate to heavy rain was received in the city and its suburbs and a few other places in the district in the morning, followed by light to heavy drizzle till afternoon. Some of the arterial roads were inundated due to rain.
Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts of the Cauvery Delta region also experienced unseasonal rain yesterday.
Several parts of Karur district continued to reel under a wet spell. Rain lashed Karur town, Kulithalai and interior parts of the district for the third day today.
