Navy, Coast Guard on high alert to prevent LTTE intrusion
Ramanathapuram, Mar 22 (UNI) The Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) were put on high alert following the sinking of a Sri Lankan Naval Boat by Sea Tigers, the naval wing of LTTE, near Mullaitheevu today.
An ICG spokesperson told UNI that to prevent any LTTE infiltration, a comprehensive security cover was put in place in the Indian territorial waters.
He said the LTTE cadres might sneak into India following intense fighting between the Sri Lankan Navy and the LTTE.
He said the Tamil Nadu police had also intensified coastal patrolling.
Both air and sea surveillance were tightened with the help of the Indian Navy to prevent the LTTE intrusion, he added.
