Inquiry into train derailment begins
Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, Mar 22 (UNI) The Railways today began its statutory inquiry into the derailment of seven coaches of the Madurai-Kollam fast passenger train in the Thiruvanathapuram division of the Southern Railway, in which 17 passengers were injured on Thursday.
Mr K J S Naidu, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Bangalore, under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, would conduct the inquiry today and tomorrow.
He examined railway officials and employees concerned, the train driver and the general public here.
The inquiry would go into the nature and cause of the accident and pave way for checking recurrence of such incidents, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram, Titus P Koshy said.
The derailment between Valliyur and Aralvaimozhi in Tirunelveli-Nagercoil section disrupted rail traffic and prompted the railways to cancel and reschedule several express and passenger trains in this route.
