Sepang, Malaysia, Mar 22 (UNI) It was a day of differing perspectives for the Force India drivers with Giancarlo Fischella feeling that he did a great qualifying job though being pipped to the 16th spot at the last corner by Rubens Barrichello.
However, Adrian Sutil was not so happy with his performance stating that, ''it was not a good qualifying and I had trouble with the tyres.'' Speaking to the media after qualifying in the 21st place, Sutil said,''to be honest I was expecting this as we had not had a great practice in the morning. We had problems again trying to get the soft tyres to work, my car is just not behaving how it should be with them and I even tried a hard set. The car felt much better but for sure with them I can't race the other cars. In the race and over longer runs I think we are better.
In Melbourne it was OK and I have a good feeling there is more in the car.'' Fisichello said that he felt the qualifying was great and he managed to take the car to the limit. ''However, it is a bit dissapoiting that I could not make the Q2 by just 0.05 seconds.'' He further added that though he has failed to make the Q2, the signs for the future are encouraging with ''us improving our quickest lap by over two seconds compared to other teams.'' The forecast for rain has also not dampned his mood, instead saying that if it rains he will be better positioned as he likes the rain.
Recalling his 2006 win here, Fisichello said that he has great memories, but the times are different and with Force India ''we are not looking at winning at the moment but are just trying to complete the race and log on some points.'' He also said that the team was going forward in the right direction, taking a few steps forward with each race, though there is scope for lot of improvement.
Mike Gascoyne, Force India's chief technical officer felt that, ''ultimately it was very disappointing to have missed out on Q2 with Giancarlo by only five hundredths of a second.'' ''It is also frustrating to have been within a second of the quickest time in the first session and to still be 17th on the grid, but that shows just how close and exciting Formula One is at the moment.
''Giancarlo has done a good job all day, but Adrian struggled with the balance, but overall I think we have a car that can be competitive with those in front of us and I think the new parts we have had on the car here have increased our performance from Melbourne. We have to look to the strategy to have a good race here tomorrow, he further stated.
