Dalit movement demands action against ministers

Puducherry, Mar 22: The Movement to safeguard the rights of Dalits of Puducherry origin today strongly condemned the Congress governemnt here for not taking action against Health Minister E Valsaraj and Education Minister M O H F Shajahan against whom cases were registered by the police.

Talking to newspersons here, Movement convener and former legislator Deivanayagam said while a Dalit minister was stripped of his post within no time for a domestic problem, the two ministers were spared by the Congress Government eventhough cases under non-bailable sections of IPC were registered agaisnt them.

He also sought fresh investigation into the Rs 9.5 lakh bribery case in which two ministers figure to bring out the truth to the people of the Union Territory.

Mr Deivanayagam also demanded that the vacant government posts be filled up with adidravidar people of Puducherry origin through a special drive, government's welfare schemes be provided only to the adi dravidars of Puducherry origin and a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the welfare schemes provided through the Adi Dravidar Development Department.

He urged the administration to present a separate budget on the Special Component Plan (SCP) meant for the welfare of Dalits.
