35 injured in clash during Holi; curfew imposed
Jaipur, Mar 22 (UNI) Indefinite Curfew was imposed in the old city localities of Chittorgarh town in Rajasthan following communal clashes during Holi celebrations today which left over 35 people injured.
Incidents of stone throwing, arson and loot were reported from about 20 places even as people, equipped with batons and arms, were gathering at some points till evening, a report from Chittorgarh quoting official sources said.
The police used routine means including lathicharge and tear gas to disperse the mob but people, in groups, continued to clash with each other at different points.
Later, the police imposed curfew to control the situation.
Inspector General of Police (Udaipur Zone) NRK Reddy rushed to Chittorgarh and additional police force from nearby towns of Bhilwara, Udaipur has also been sent to Chittorgarh.
The communal violence also marred Holi celebrations in the Tonk town with Holi revellers clashing with people of a particular community outside a religious place in Heera Chowk area this afternoon.
Several people, including four to five police personnel, were injured in the incident in Tonk.
