Bangalore, Mar 21 (UNI) The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) today declared Indian test team Vice-Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and ace spinner Harbhajan Singh fit for the three Test home series against South Africa, with the first match scheduled in Chennai from March 26 to 30.
Earlier, Dhoni and Harbhajan underwent fitness tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) here.
BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah, while announcing the squad for the first two Tests had made it clear that the two players had to undergo physical tests to prove their fitness. He had named Dinesh Kartik and Piyush Chawala as the stand-bys, if Dhoni and Harbhajan failed to pass the fitness test.
While Dhoni, who arrived at the NCA in the morning left the venue within an hour, Harbhajan was seen undergoing various physical tests both in the KSCA stadium as well as in NCA, watched by academy physical trainer Paul Chapman. He was seen doing workouts, running and other exercises on the field.
Harbhajan had said in Jalandhar yesterday that he was ''absolutely fit'' and was prepared to undergo any fitness test before the upcoming Test series.
Medium pacer V R V Singh also underwent fitness test today.
