New Delhi, Mar 21 (UNI) In a rare co-incidence Eid-ul-Milad, Good Friday, Chhoti Holi and Navroz fell on the same day today.

Christians observed the crucifixion of Jesus Christ by holding fasts and prayers. The main prayers were held in Sacred Heart Cathedral (Gole Dakkhana) and Mary's Orthodox Cathedral (Hauz Khas), where thousands of faithfuls assembled.

There are 14 events highlighted in the gospel from the time Christ is condemned to death till the time he is buried. Symbolising the events, 14 pictures are kept in all churches where people pay their tributes.

The faithfuls eat bread which is not fermented.

The Muslims took out processions in various parts of the city and held special prayers to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad. 'Suji ka halwa' was also distributed to mark the day.

Parts of the city were bedecked with green and white fairy lights, mini replicas of the Ka'aba and Masjid-e-Nabvi.

The small Parsi community also celebrated Navroz to welcome the beginning of spring at the time of the Vernal Equinox. The day was marked by community feasting.

Most parts of North India celebrated 'chhoti Holi' as a prelude to Holi tomorrow.

The main festivities centre around the traditional bonfire lit in the evening. It also celebrates the completion of the barley harvest.
