Enthusiasts in Manipur keep traditional Polo alive
Imphal, March 20, 2008 : Polo enthusiasts in India's northeastern Manipur, the state believed to be the birthplace of the sport, are keeping the equestrian sport alive.
The modern game of polo, though popularised by the British, is said to have originated in Manipur and is known as Sagol Kangjei in the state. Polo lovers in the state appreciate the tremendous skill and teamwork between man and animal in this very thrilling and difficult sport.
