Governor, CM greet Muslims on Meelad-Un-Nabi

Chennai, Mar 20 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor S S Barnala, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa today greeted the people on the eve of Meelad-Un-Nabi, the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed.

In his message, Mr Barnala said the Prophet Mohammed preached universal brotherhood, compassion and love.

''Let us on this holy occasion, rededicate ourselves for the promotion of mutual affinity, unity, peace and harmony'', he said conveying his heartiest greetings and good wishes.

Recalling the Prophet's preaching that promises should be kept, Mr Karunanidhi quoted an incident in the life of Prophet Mohammed and compared it with the verses of Thiruvalluvar in Thirukkural.

''Let us follow the humanity of Prophet Mohammed and strive for the uplift of poor, downtrodden, widows and oppressed classes,'' he said and extended his greetings.

In her message, Ms Jayalalithaa said the Prophet's teachings such as amity, peace and equality are very precious.

Meelad-un-Nabi gives an opportunity to the people to rededicate themselves to the cause of communal harmony and fraternity, she added.

TNCC President M Krishnasamy and MDMK General Secretary Vaiko also greeted the people on the occasion.
