Mumbai, Mar 20 (UNI) The metropolitan magistrate court today granted bail to Sayyed Hafiz, the taxi driver who had allegedly molested a 23-year-old Russian national yesterday at Juhu here.
Advocate Prakash Wagh, who is representing Hafiz, argued that his client was falsely implicated in the case. He also brought to the notice of the court that Hafiz had charged Rs 450 from the victim for taking her around the city for three hours during which she had visited three to four places and met some people.
Mr Wagh said his client had left the victim at her destination, where she was received by a person, who started arguing on the authenticity of the taxi meter. Following which Hafiz gave his mobile number to the person and told him that if he had any doubts regarding the meter, he could contact the RTO.
Later, they called up Hafiz and asked him to come back. When he reached the spot, they took him to the police station, Mr Wagh said.
After hearing the argument, the court released Hafiz on a cash bail of Rs 4,000.
The Russian girl had come to India about three months back on a tourist visa. She came down from Goa to Mumbai by a flight yesterday.
Acording to the girl, she hired a taxi from the domestic airport in Santacruz to go to her friend's place in Juhu. The taxi driver, Sayyed Hafiz, took her around the city for about three hours and when they did not reach the destination, the victim called up her friend to get the address.
Her friend's husband dictated the address to Hafiz.
Thereafter, Hafiz took the victim to Juhu, but stopped the taxi a few feet away from her friend's house. He then asked the girl to kiss him.
When she refused, Hafiz allegedly forcibly kissed her, following which she called up her friends. The victim's friends arrived at the spot and took Hafiz to the Juhu Police Station.
