Cable TV operators exempt from Entertainment Tax: Mnister
Chennai, Mar 20 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Government today announced cable that TV operators would be exempted from the payment of Entertainment Tax.
While presenting the State Budget for 2008-2009, State Finance Minister K Anbazagan said in addition, Entertainment Tax arrears to the tune of Rs 16 crore outstanding as on March 31 would also be waived.
With a view to promoting the welfare of cable TV operators, a separate welfare board would be created for them.
Mr Anbazagan also pointed out the government had formed Arasu Cable TV Corporation as a multi system operator which would receive programme signals from various television channels and transmit them to local cable TV operators.
A global tender had been floated for purchasing necessary equipment for this purpose.
''This corporation will soon start functioning after procuring the necessary equipment,'' he added.
