Barreto arrested at NSCBI airport, released on bail

Kolkata, Mar 20 (UNI) A local court today granted bail to Mohun Bagan's Brazilian striker Jose Ramirez Barreto, arrested from the Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport, for carrying excess US dollars.

Barreto, en route to Rio-de-Janeiro via Dubai by an Emirates flight, was held at the airport this morning with 27,000 US dollars by the Customs department.

After interrogation, the Customs officials handed the mercurial striker over to airport police.

Barreto was later produced in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court at Barasat.

CJM Sumitra Roy, after hearing the bail petition, moved by advocate Tarak Banerjee, released the Brazilian on a Rs 5000 bond.

An amount of 5000 US dollar is permissible under the present law.
