Washington, Mar 20 : Anton Yelchin is in talks to star in the new 'Terminator' movie with Christian Bale in the lead role.

The actor is negotiating to play the role of post-apocalyptic warrior Kyle Reese in "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins."

Yelchin will play a teen version of Reese, the man who fathered John Connor in the original "Terminator" film.

Reese was one of the children who survived a machine-driven nuclear holocaust who strikes up a friendship with Marcus (Sam Worthington), an early edition of the Terminator cyborg.

"Salvation" will see a young version of Reese, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

In the original pic, Michael Biehn played the character who travelled back in time to impregnate Sarah Connor and father John.

'Salvation' picks up with their son, to be played by Bale, now in his 30s, fighting desperately to save a decimated civilization against machines that have taken control.

McG is directing the sci-fi film produced by the Halcyon Co. and set for a Warner Bros. release in summer 2009.

Halcyon's Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson are producing with Moritz Borman.

David Campbell Wilson, John Brancato and Michael Ferris wrote the screenplay. Principal photography is set to begin in early May.
