18 booked for fraud in Amravati

Nagpur, Mar 20: Police registered case of offences against 18 persons for allegedly trying to obtain government funds on the basis of fake documents in Amravati city in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

This followed a complaint by the project director of District Rural Development Authority at Kotwali Police Station, Amravati.The complaint alleged that the 18 persons, who are office-bearers of two societies, Govindprabhu Gramin Vikas Sanstha and Govindprabhu Gramin Yuva Vikas Sanstha, submitted false registration papers, experience certificates and other documents to obtain government grants for their Rs 13.90 crore dairy development project.

The Central government released Rs 2 crore for the project but after the fraud came to light, it had asked the project promoters to return the amount.
