Tiruchirapalli, Mar 19 (UNI) Dr Raman Chandrasekar, a scientist in the Department of Eco-Biotechnology of the Bharathidasan University, and Department Head M Krishnan have been invited to deliver an address at the Asia-Pacific Congress of Sericulture and Biotechnology (APSERI), Nagoya, Japan, scheduled to be held form March 21 to 23.
APSERI extended the invitation so that their research contribution could be shared with eminent sientists working in the field of insect biotechnology worldwide, Dr Chandrasekar told UNI.
He said the APSERI had rated as 'country report', the findings of an innovative research on molecular-based pest control in groundnut, a major oilseeds crop, undertaken by the University.
Utilising the opportunity provided by the recent outbreak of Red Hairy Caterpillar ' Amsacta Albistirg (walker)' on groundnut, the research team leveraged several advancements made in the application of genetics and biotechnology in pest management to evolve a novel control strategy based on the biological attributes of the pest, he added.
