Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 19: Kerala Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran today said the state's request for its due share of water for irrigation purpose from the Parambikulam-Aliyar Project (PAP) was not considered favourably by neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

Replying to a submission in the State Assembly, the Minister pointed out that only on three occasions since 1972 that Tamil Nadu kept the full reservoir level of 2,663 ft on February 1.

This led to a situation where Kerala was not supplied with adequate water during summer period.

However, Tamil Nadu used to release excess water during the rainy season and adjusted it against the claim of Kerala.

He said the state government had raised the issue several times.

The agreement was signed by both the states in 1970 with a retrospective effect from 1958 for sharing the water for 30 years.
