New Delhi, Mar 19 : Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil has condemned the recent killing of innocent people by militants in various incidents in Manipur.
"I strongly condemn the recent killing of innocent persons by extremists in Manipur. I convey my condolences to the kin of the deceased and pray for speedy recovery of the injured," Patil said.
He said these are acts of cowardice, perpetrated with the intention to disturb social harmony and create panic among people.
Patil said the Ministry of Home Affairs is in touch with the Manipur Government, which has been asked to take all steps to nab the culprits, provide security to vulnerable sections and avoid recurrence of such incidents.
Unidentified militants had gunned down at least 14 non-Manipuris in two separate incidents that took place Monday night.
According to official sources, militants gunned down non-Manipuris at Takhel and Keibi. All the victims were labourers, and hailed from Bihar.
