Security stepped up along China border after Tibetan violence
Kathmandu, Mar 19 (UNI) The District Administration Office, Mustang, bordering with Tibet in western Nepal, has exercised security alert along the Nepal-China border area, following the outbreak of violence in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China for the past few days, state run media reports said.
''A security alert has been maintained at the upper Mustang located on the Nepal-China border in order to avert any untoward incident in the border area as a result of the violence,'' state-run The Rising Nepal quoted District Administration Office Mustang as saying.
Alertness has been exercised because Tibetans enter into Nepal via Mustang illegally during such incidents in the past, CDO Pradip Raj Kandel said.
Tibetans were detained in Kathmandu when they demonstrated in front of the UN office on Monday. More than 20,000 Tibetan refugees live in Nepal.
