Puducherry, Mar 19(UNI) Groupism in the local unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to the fore with one group seeking police permission to organise an agitation here, while the other demanding its cancellation.
President of the BJP town wing Karate Ellangovan had sought police permission to organise an agitation in front of the Education Department here to press the territorial administration to abolish the entrance examination for admission to professional courses on the lines of Tamil Nadu.
However, party president M Visweswaran, urged the police to cancel the permission granted for the agitation as Ellangovan had already been removed from party post.
Ellangovan, who came to know of this went to the police station along with party national executive committee member Swaminathan and obtained police permission in the name of Swaminathan.
The demonstration would be held later in the day.
