Srinagar, Mar 19 (UNI) The upper reaches in the Kashmir valley, Kargil and Drass experienced light fresh snowfall while many parts in plains had rains today, resulting in drop in the temperature and forcing people to wear woolen again.
The Harwan hill and other upper areas experienced fresh snowfall, resulting in considerable cold.
Tree tops and earth had turned white this afternoon due to snow.
However, proper Harwan and adjoining areas received heavy rains, disrupting normal life.
The sky in the summer capital remained cloudy most of the time during the day. People, who had stopped wearing warm cloths because of above normal temperature for the past three weeks, were again seen in woolen cloths because of cold.
Early change in the weather had started melting snow on the upper reaches in the valley. The water level in Jehlum, Sind and their tributaries had increased due to melting of snow.
A UNI report from Kargil said Drass, the second coldest place in the world experienced few inches of snow.
Kargil witnessed light snow and rains, disrupting normal life, it said.
It was coldest night in Drass where the minimum dipped to minus eight degree Celsius and at Kargil it was minus 5 degrees the report said.
The maximum at Kargil was 2 degrees while at Drass it was 1.5 degrees.
