Farmers attempt road roko, taken into custody
Tiruchirappali, Mar 19 (UNI) Over 120 men and women belonging to the Tiruchirapalli Unit of the CPI-affiliated Tamil Maanila Vivasaya Thozhilazhar Sangam were taken into custody by the police when they attempted to resort to road roko at the busy Main Guard Gate Area in here today.
Mr A M Gopu, Senior AITUC Leader, who led the agitation told newsmen the road roko was part of statewide agitation to urge the Tamil Nadu Government to release and implement the Kolappan Committee Recommendations on agriculture immediately.
They also demanded free housing sites and power supply besides 30 kg free rice a month to farm labourers.
Hundreds of men and women were arrested in adjoining Karur, Pudkottai and Perambalur Districts also.
