Lucknow, Mar 19 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Congress Mahila Morcha will hold a day-long demonstration at all the district headquarters of the state on April 17 to protest the Mayawati government's failure to arrest price rise of essential commodities and deteriorating law and order situation.
Addressing a press conference here, newly appointed Morcha president Mira Singh said the UP government should be held responsbile for the rising prices of essential commodities as it has failed to nail blackmarketeers.
''The law and order situation in the state is in a bad shape with women atrocities touching its peak,'' she claimed.
Talking about her priorities, Ms Singh said efforts would be made for strengthening the party organisation and to make more women members before the Lok Sabha polls.
''Our demand for the 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and Vidhan Sabha will be prominently highlighted, while women teams would be sent in the rural areas to make people aware about the achievements of the central government,'' she said.
The Morcha president said a new committee would soon be announced and till then, the old committee would function.
