Panaji, Mar 19 (UNI) Monte Hill, a panoramic location situated in Margao constituency in South Goa represented by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, is slated for beautification to convert into a major tourist attraction.
The beautification project was entrusted with the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation which sought suggestions, comments and valuable inputs from experts including architects.
Symbolising the Old Goan architecture is a small chapel atop the hill. The road from the Largo de Igreja splits into two at the entrance to Margao, one going into the city and the other winding up towards another Margao landmark.
This road called Calcada de Nossa Senhora de Piedade leads up to Monte Hill that offers a dazzling panoramic vista of the Salcette area from where the city of Margao and the suburbs can be seen.
This hill has been a refuge for the early morning walkers, joggers and a popular place for people of Margao, who would like to have a walk in the evening. The chapel conducts various religious and social ceremonies.
Beautification of this place was envisaged to develop it into a popular location, the other major tourist attraction being Colva beach on the other side of the hill, according to official sources.
