410 fish rearing units coming up in Kupwara

Srinagar, Mar 19: The Jammu and Kashmir fisheries department has established 410 fish rearing units in the private sector in the frontier district of Kupwara, once a hub of militants.

The units will have immense potential for creating employment opportunities for the unemployed rural youth in the district, an official spokesman said today. He said a trout rearing unit was coming up at Bohipora while a Dewer fish seed dumping farm was functioning at Dewer in a remote area of Kupwara.

He said this trout and carp fish seed dumping station at Dewer was made functional and stocked with exotic varieties of carp fish seed for distribution among the fish farmers and for stocking in various Sars which are available in the district. A trout fish rearing unit is under construction at Bohipora Kupwara.

With the completion of this unit, the trout production in the district will touch six tones which will be made available for sale to the people, he added.
