RS Members demand explanation over US Naval ship purchase
New Delhi, Mar 17 (UNI) Strongly objecting to the purchase of the ''vintage '' US Naval Ship USS Trenton by the Navy, Rajya Sabha Members today demanded the Government come out with a statement on the terms and conditions of the sale.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour in the House, Mr Tapan Kumar Sen of the CPI(M) said the 1971 ship purchased by the government was unsuitable sailors had died of gas leakage on board the ship.
In fact the 50 million dollar ship was by decommissioned by US, he said, adding that it was unfortunate that such rejected goods were now finding place in the Indian Navy.
Moreover, the US is reported to be using conditions on the use of the ship which was direct attack on the soverign rights of the country, he said.
Mr Sen said the Government should come out with clarifications on the points raised by him.
Several other members also supported My Sen's demand.
