Chandigarh, Mar 18 (UNI) The Punjab government raised loans of Rs 5447.88 crore from the central government, banks, financial institutions and National Small Savings Fund during the current fiscal year, Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal told the state assembly today.
The amount of interest payable thereon at the end of this fiscal year is Rs 4792.19 crore upto the year 2032-33, the Minister said in his reply to Ajit Inder Singh Mofar (Cong) during question hour.
Replying to a supplimentray raised by the Congress member, the Minister said that Rs 1400 crore from this amount was used to fill the deficit gap in the budget of the current financial year. The remaining amount will be used as the state share in the proposed centrally funded developmental schemes, he added.
Pointing out that state Corporations and Boards were autonomous bodies, Mr Badal told the House that their loans are not used by the state government for developmental purposes. However an exception was made in the case of the 'Atta Dal Scheme' wherein a loan of Rs 330 crore was availed by a corporation and the state government stood gurantee for this loan, he added.
