NDFB to have a-day long bandh in Assam today
Dispur, Mar 18 : The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) has called for a day-long Assam bandh on Tuesday to protest against allegation to kill their association's secretary Bigrai Basumatary.
Bodo Sahitya Sabha BSS, the apex literary body of the Bodos has urged the government to negotiate with the NDFB to end the ongoing fatal clashes in the Bodo-dominated areas of lower Assam.
"BSS is willing to work for a peaceful solution to the problem despite the demand of the NDFB for sovereignty," BSS president B K Brahma said.
The NDFB is a rebel group fighting for an independent homeland for the Bodo tribe since 1986. The Bodos, a primitive tribe who are mostly either Hindus or Christians, account for about 10 per cent of Assam's 26 million people and live in the western and northern part of the State. ANI)
