Indian team selection for SA series unwise: Kirti Azad

By Staff

Darbhanga, Mar 18 (UNI) Former Cricketer and selector of the Indian cricket team Kirti Azad today dubbed the selection for South African series as ''unwise''.

Sharing his views over the selection of Indian team, Mr Azad said here that selections should be made on the basis of consistency and performance of the players.

He said the selectors have infact not utilised their 'brain' while and did their job without analysing the performance of the players.

Pinpointing some of the 'wrong' selections, Mr Azad said Gautam Gambhir, who had made maximum runs during the Australian series, had been kept out of South African tour.

Putting the selectors in the wrong box for selecting Yuraj Singh in the team, he said Yuraj 'failed' miserably during Austrailian tour.

Refering to the statement of Dilip Vengsarkar, the chief selector of the Indian team in which he had stated that Yuraj Singh will have to put extra labour to be a test cricketer, Mr Azad said it was great irony that the same selector had given place to Yuraj Singh in the test series.

He further said the Australian players went to the pavilion due to the superb bowling of Pravin Kumar. However, he had not been given place in the team.

Non-selection of players like Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma and Pankaj Singh like players even after their commendable performance would affect their spirit, he added.
