Security tight in China following Tibetan riots
Gansu Province March 17, 2008 : Hundreds of riot police have sealed off Tibetan areas in northwestern China after thousands of Tibetans in Xiahe county of Gansu Province took to the streets to protest against the government and demand for more human rights.
Officials have ordered a curfew in several towns and cities near Xiahe. Monks first took to the streets of Tibet last Monday to mark the 49th anniversary of the uprising. The protests soon spread to adjoining regions inhabited by pockets of Tibetans.
