Lucknow, Mar 17: Blaming the UPA government at the Centre and the BSP government in the state for the rise of prices of essential commodities, Uttar Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party today announced to launch massive agitation against the price rise in the state very soon.
''After the General budget, the prices of all the goods have gone up resulting miseries for the poor families of the country,'' said party senior leader Lalji Tandon.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Tandon said the BJP's central unit had already launched the agitation and now the state unit will intensify it.
''The UPA government's claim about the populist budget failed to generate any enthusiasm among the poor families as they are now finding hard to have their two time meals following the rise of prices of essential food items,'' he claimed.
Criticising the Mayawati government in the state, he said the BSP government in the state has also failed to control the prices of essential commodities.
''Prices of essential food items have gone up after the implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) regime and the state government had done nothing to control it,'' he said.
Mr Tandon also alleged that no other political party except for the BJP was taking up the issue due to political reasons.'' other parties are only interested in politics over division of state, dalit killings or development, but none are concerned about the peoples' miseries'', he claimed.
