Port Blair, Mar 17 (UNI) Car Nicobar Island, which was ravaged by Tsunami in 2004, is badly hit by shortage of foodstuff due to non-availability of proper cargo carrying vessels, connecting the far flung island with Port Blair, the capital city of Andaman.

Due to improper supply of food materials and other essential commodities, the tribal dominated island is now facing shortage of goods, islanders complain.

Thousands of tribal people of civilized Nicobarese community are facing shortage of food due to delay in supply of proper food materials and other essentials from other islands.

'' We have complained several times but there is no one to hear,'' said John R, a resident of Car Nicobar Island, where per kg of fish costs nearly Rs 100 and chicken costs Rs 200.

Islanders balmed the administration for the shortage as in several months only one vessel M V Dering was being sent to the islands that too only once a week, which doesn't have any cargo capacity.
