Students agitate against non-extension of financial aid
Nagercoil, Mar 17 (UNI) Thousands of students of private and self-financing colleges today staged a demonstration and resorted to a road blockade in front of the Collectorate here in protest against the Tamil Nadu Government not extending financial assistance to the backward and most backward students.
Braving heavy downpour, the students resorted to the agitation as the assistance, distributed for the last 23 years, was not handed over this year.
Following the stir, traffic was disrupted for some time.
Legislators Jeyapaul and Leema Rose intervened and pacified the agitators. However, the students soon resumed the agitation.
The MLAs assured the students that they would take up the matter with the Government and if the Government does not relent, they would also take part in the stir.
