Panchkula, Mar 17 (UNI) A high-level meeting of Railway Security officials of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh today met here and resolved to re-double efforts unitedly to curb the rising graph of criminal activities in the trains, especially in view of the busy harvest and holiday season ahead.
Addressing the press after the meeting, Additional DGP Law and Order and Traffic (H) V B Singh told reporters that the meeting resolved to launch a combined multi-pronged approach of strengthening security, simplifying procedures, sensitising people and roping in the common man to ensure safe train journeys.
''We are confident of improving the present system through registeration of crime on the train, better coordination and sharing of information to nab inter-state criminals like the 'biscuit gangs' targetting railway passengers, he said.
SP/RLYS (Haryana) Bharti Arora said that the GRP had already roped in about 100 ''Train Wardens'' from the daily passengers who are given identity cards.
''These friends of police who have been given I-cards, are providing us valuable information in helping lost children, checking against eve teasing and other crimes inside the compartments'', she said.
Moreover, complaints forms have been distributed to patrolling parties, TTEs and Guards and train wardens for lodging FIR on each complaint so that complainants are not harrased.
Government Railways Police patrolling parties have been given ''GRP on Duty'' boards so that they can located easily in the train.
A public awareness campaing has been launched to educate public about security threats. A film ''lawaris Saman'' has been prepared which will be shown on all national channels.
Glow Sign Boards have been fixed at railway stations communicating security messages to the public.
