Punjab govt approves thermal plant, Assembly informed
Chandigarh, Mar 17 (UNI) The Punjab government has approved installation of the 1980 MW Talwandi Sabo thermal power plant at Banwala in Mansa district.
Giving this information to the state Assembly during the question hour, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said the generation from the first units of the plant was expected during the 11th Five Year Plan, that is by 2011.
The subsequent units would be completed at the interval of four months from the state of the first unit, he told Ajit Inder Singh Mofar (Cong).
Regarding the compensation being given to those whose land was being acquired for the project, the Chief Minister said it was being given at the market value of the land in that area. The disbursement of compensation to all the affected would be completed soon, he assured the House.
The Chief Minister did not agree with the member that the compensation was inadequate as compared to certain areas of Punjab including Mohali. ''The value of land is not the same throughout the state,'' he added.
