Oppn Congress walksout of assembly over law and order issue
Dehra Dun, Mar 17 (UNI) The main opposition Congress today staged a walkout from the Uttarakhand 'Vidhan Sabha' claiming that the government was not doing ''anything'' to curb crime in the state, even as Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant clarified that law and order was being maintained.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Leader of the Opposition Harak Singh Rawat said incidences of crime in the state were increasing day by day and the government was remaining ignorant.
He cited an incident in Bajpur where a Mandi Samiti leader and his wife escaped an attempted murder on them.
''Incidences of robbery, murder and rape in the state were increasing, but the government remains a mute spectator,'' Mr Rawat said adding that police had not yet nabbed the culprits.
Mr Pant however, dismissed the allegations and said crime level in the state had declined as compared to last year.
Dissatisfied by the minister's reply, Mr Rawat along with his partymen staged a walkout.
