Bhopal, Mar 17: The Madhya Pradesh Assembly was today adjourned for ten minutes after the ruling BJP members created a ruckus over alleged objectionable comments about women made by Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi.
During the Zero Hour, Ms Sudha Jain (BJP) said, ''The Opposition leader had made objectionable statements against daughters of the state while commenting upon 'Ladli Lakshmi' scheme during a meeting at Seoni-Malwa.'' Ms Jain demanded an apology from Ms Devi for her comment. Her demand was supported by Women and Child Development Minister Kusum Mehdele and other women members of the BJP.
In the meantime, Congress members started speaking together. The assembly witnessed a din with BJP members shouting slogans. Speaker Ishwardas Rohani tried to convince members but to no avail forcing him to adjourn the House for ten minutes.
When the House re-assembled, Ms Mehdele raised the issue again and demanded apology. Ms Jain said it was an insult to women and Ms Devi must apologise.
Ms Devi claimed that she had not insulted women and had meant something else when she made the comment. She wanted to speak something else but it was not clearly audible as other members were speaking together. Opposition Congress members strongly countered slogan shouting by Congress members.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra, Cooperative Minister Gopal Bhargava and other ministers wanted to speak something but could not do so because of objection by opposition members.
BJP members and Congress members calmed down only when the Speaker took firm stand and the proceedings could moved ahead.
