Mayor to don cricket gear for Mayor XI vs Indian XI

Mumbai, Mar 17 (UNI) City Mayor Shubha Raul is all set to jump on to the cricket bandwagon when she walks out in full cricket attire to lead the Mayor XI v/s Indian XI, to be captained by Diana Eduljee, in a celebrity match at Mumbai Police Gymkhana here tomorrow.

The match which commences at 0900 hrs is a prelude to the Meenatai Thackeray Gold Cup Six-a-Side Cricket Tournament, organised by Pandurangwadi Cricket Club, Shiv Sena MP Mohan Rawale, who is the convenor of this tournament, informed here today.

The tournament, a one-day jamboree, which has attracted a record 94 teams would witness past and present stars like Sanjay Bangar, Nilesh Kulkarni, Abey Kuruvilla, Rohit Sharma, Vinayak Samant, Vineet Indulkar, Vinod Raghawan, Wilkin Mota, Yogesh Takawale, Anup Rewankar, Sushant Manjrekar, take the field for various outfits like Air India, Tatas, BPCL, CCI, Shivaji Park Gymkhana, Indian Oil, D Y Patil Sports Club and Mumbai Police to name a few, he added.

The matches will be held at eight different venues with the matches from quarter final stage onwards to be played under floodlights at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana.

The winner will take away a purse of Rs 75,000 and the runners-up Rs 50,000. The losing semi finalists stand to gain Rs 10,000.

Besides, individual prizes are also at stake in this tournament, Mr Rawale added.
