New Delhi, Mar 17: The Government has signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance with the US Government for the procurement of six C-130J-30 aircraft for the Indian Air Force, said the Defence Minister A K Antony told the Lok Sabha today.
In a written reply, the Minister said the estimated value of the aircraft along with associated ground support equipment, ground handling equipment and the role equipment was in 962,454,677 US Dollars. The delivery of these aircraft was likely to be completed by December 2011. In response to another question, Mr Antony said the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has concluded contract for supply of Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopters (DALH) to Army and Air Force. Deliveries to Air Force were to be completed by 2012-13 and to Army by 2015-16.
He said infrastructure and capacity had been augmented at HAL to deliver the helicopters in time.
He said repair and overhaul activities had been entrusted to a separate division of HAL so that production of helicopters could be completed in a dedicated facility.
Responding to another question the Defence Minister admitted that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) had developed Composite Rocket Motor Casing for missile system.
He said one meter diameter composite material rocket motor had been developed and tested statically by DRDO for missile propulsion system.
He said the composite material rocket motor was lighter in weight and easier to fabricate, Mr Antony added.
