Cong failed to maintain dignity of Assembly: Naidu
Hyderabad, Mar 17 (UNI) Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu today alleged that the Congress government had failed to maintain the dignity of the Legislative Assembly.
Addressing a press conference after the House was adjourned for the day, he said the government was trying to throttle the voice of the Opposition by not allowing them to raise any issue in the House.
He alleged that the Congress government had failed to protect the democratic principles of the House.
Mr Naidu said it was the responsibility of the Speaker to run the House independently and in a democratic manner by giving equal chances to both the treasury and opposition benches. However, the Speaker was yielding to the 'pressures' of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and working as per his directions, he alleged.
He said though several times they had protested on the functioning of the House, there was no change in the ruling party members' attitude. When the Opposition raised any issue, its members were either suspended or the House adjourned without discussing the issue.
