Action initiated in jailbreak: Chhattisgarh govt
Raipur, Mar 17 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh government has initiated action on the report of an administrative inquiry into circumstances leading to the Dantewada jailbreak resulting in escape of 299 inmates, including 160 naxals, on December 16 last year.
Talking to UNI, the state's Principal Secretary (Home) N K Aswal confirmed receipt of the report submitted by senior Indian Administrative Service officer and Bastar Development Commissioner R S Vishwakarma.
''We have initiated action. A chargesheet is being issued to the Deputy Inspector-General (Prisons). It has been decided to seek explanation from others,'' he said adding that further action would be taken later.
Asked why the government preferred to revoke suspension of the DIG (Prisons) even after the report passed severe strictures against him, Mr Aswal evaded a direct reply saying that it was because of this reason that a chargesheet was being issued.
Mr R S Vishwakarma strongly indicted the sub-jail staff and even senior Jails Department officials holding them responsible for negligence and lapses.
