Selection Committee to meet here tomorrow
Bangalore, Mar 16 (UNI) The BCCI Selection Committee will meet here tomorrow to select the Indian Team for three test series against visiting South Africa beginning in Chennai from March 26.
While Selection Committee Chairman Venksarkar was expected to arrive here tonight, other members are arriving in the morning.
It may not be an easy task for the Selectors as most of the bowlers were in injury list and fitness played a crucial role in the recent test series against Australia.
The Committee had deferred the selection on Mar 9 since the members wanted to witness fitness of the players in the ongoing Deodhar trophy. Besides, BCCI had made it mandatory for the Test players, who were off the field for more than one month, to undergo Fitness test in National Cricket Academy (NCA) here.
Team India Test Captain Anil Kumble, Former Skippers Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Bowlers Ajit Agarkar, Yuvraj Singh, Rudra Pratap Singh among others underwent the Fitness test with NCA Director (Organising) Dev Whatmore and other supporting staff.
The Committee members are also expected to witness the match between Central Zone and North Zone in the Deodhar Trophy being played tomorrow before sitting for selection.
Praveen Kumar, who was the main instrumental in India winning the CB series against Australia and Piyush Chawala had proved their control over the ball by enabling Central Zone to restrict the defending Champions West Zone for a paltry 98 in 29.1 overs. The Central Zone registered a six wicket victory.
