Liquor smugglers gang busted, three arrested
Phagwara, Mar 16 (UNI) Phagwara Police has busted an inter state gang of liquor smugglers and nabbed its three members and seized a truck loaded with different kinds of whisky.
Phagwara DSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh while talking to mediapersons here today said, on a tip off they organised a Naka near Sahni village and stopped a truck. During the search of the truck, large quantity of liquor was recovered from it.
The DSP said the three gang members identified as Prabhu lal, Gulab Chand and Bhura Ram, all from Chitorgarh district of Rajasthan, were going to supply the smuggled liquor in Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar and Kapurthla districts. They were arrested under section 61/1/14 of the Excise Act.
Mr Khakh said the gang was operating in various parts of the country, including Punjab, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Himachal Pardesh and Haryana.
The members of the gang had revealed that the gang was being operated by its kingpin, Naresh Kumar of Chandigarh. Naresh operates the gang with the help of other smugglers belonging to other states.
The DSP said that police parties had been dispatched to Chandigarh and other neighbouring states to nab the other members of the gang.
