Country's law and order situation good: Shivraj Patil
Hyderabad, Mar 16 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj V Patil today said the law and order situation in the country was good, compared to other countries, despite facing shortage of police personnel and equipment.
Talking to reporters after inaugurating the diamond jubilee complex at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy here, he said though there was a mismatch between the police force/number of police stations and the population of the country, the law and order situation was good.
Giving credit for the orderly situation to the cooperation extended by the public to the law enforcing authorities, the Minister said Indians are peace loving people, who showed no interest in conflicts, but choose to solve their problems through consultations and mediations.
Mr Patil said the Union Government had felt the need to modernise the police force with latest equipment and was making all efforts in this regard. The Centre is discussing with the State Chief Ministers to increase the police force and police stations and spend more funds on strengthening the force, he added.
