Alliance unity essential for 10 years: Nepal PM

Kathmandu, March 16: Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has emphasised the need for keeping the seven-party Alliance unity intact for 10 more years for a prosperous, stable and developed Nepal. The democratic forces should keep their unity intact for national unity and integration, Mr Koirala said here.

''The seven-party coalition should be continued for the next 10 years even after the Nepali Congress garners a majority in the CA election,'' he said. He said election should be taken as a victory of nation and its people, rather than taking it as the victory of a single party or an individual. ''I do not ask people to vote NC alone, I just ask to support the NC. Election is to strengthen the democratic system, not for winning or losing.'' ''As the international community is closely watching Nepalese peace process, we should be able to solve our problems by ourselves.

The foreigners should visit the country to learn from us rather than instructing us,'' he said.

The Constituent Assembly election is scheduled for April 10 to write a new Constitution and decide the fate of the 240-year-old monarchy which ruled the Himalayan nation almost in a dictatorial way.
