Kendrapada, Mar 15 (UNI) Silence is certainly the best medium for a person to enhance power within oneself but not for a tailor of this coastal part of Orissa.
It has proved a curse for 55-year-old Madan Das, the owner of Paradeep-based Roy tailor, as he lost his speech power capacity.
Fate played a cruel joke on him.
Das, a native of Kharnashi village under Kendrapara, has been residing at Madhuban Housing board colony in Port town Paradeep since last one and a half decade and eking out his living by stitching clothes.
He took a vow 20 years back while in West Bengal to remain mum in a bid to strengthen his physical and mental power. But the decision cost him his voice.
Das, father of three children, came to know from a one Niranjan Baba that one would able to increase his mental and physical power if one remain silent for a long period.
Influenced by the words of Niranjan Baba, the tailor adopted the formula of remaining silent. But after five years when he wanted to speak, he found himself unable to deliver his speech.
Not only Das lost his speaking capacity but his brain also did not function normally as he also lost his memory the to remaining quiet for a long period.
After spending huge money on Madan's treatment, the family members finally lost all hopes that he would be able to speak in his life.
When contacted, a medicine practitioner claimed that given proper treatment, he might regain his speech power but abject poverty stands as a barrier in his treatment.
