Mumbai, Mar 15 (UNI) A record 94 teams will be participating in the Eighth annual edition of the Meenatai Thackeray Memorial Gold Cup cricket tournament, to be held on March 18 here.
Played on a six a side basis, over the years many Test and Ranji cricketers have pitted their skills. The matches from the quarter final stage will be played under flood lights.
Hosted by the Pandurangwadi Cricket Club the tournament carries a prize money of over Rs one lakh, with the winner getting Rs 50,000, while the runners up will be richer by Rs 35,000. The losing semi finalists stand to gain Rs 10,000 each, a release issued here today stated.
Top outfits like Air India, Bank of India, Central Railway, Western Railway, D Y Patil Sports Club, Mumbai Police, RCF, CCI, Payyade, Reliance Energy, Islam Gymkhana, Shivaji Park Gymkhana are in the fray for top honours.
To be played on a knock-out basis, the matches have been organized at eight venues in Cross Maidan, three venues at the Oval maidan and Parsee, Islam and Mumbai Police Gymkhana, where the floodlit matches will be held.
There are individual prizes for the Man of the Tournament, Best Bowler, Batsman and Fielder also, the release added.
