Rajasthan Rajya Sabha candidates to win uncontested

Jaipur, Mar 15 (UNI) All-India Mahila Congress Chief Prabha Thakur, BJP Rajasthan unit president Om Prakash Mathur and his party colleague Gyan Prakash Pilania are expected to be declared elected unopposed for Rajya Sabha from the state on March 19.

Election for three Rajya Sabha seats from the state are being held and only Ms Thakur, Mr Pilania(both sitting MPs of Rajya Sabha on a Congress and BJP ticket respectively) and Mr Mathur have filed the nomination papers till the end of deadline for filing nominations this afternoon.

While Ms Thakur filed her papers today, Mr Mathur and Mr Pilania had filed their candidature yesterday.

The scrutiny of nominations will be done on Monday and deadline for withdrawals is March 19, Returning Officer and Rajasthan Assembly Secretary G L Chaudhary said.

If the nominations filed by the above three candidates for as many seats were found in order in scrutiny, they would be declared elected unopposed after the expiry of deadline for withdrawals on March 19, Mr Chaudhary said.

While one seat in the Upper House from the state has already been vacated by former External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh, the present term of Ms Thakur and Mr Pilania expires next month.

Ms Thakur and Mr Pilania have been refielded by their respective parties for a successive new term, BJP state president Mr Mathur has got the party nomination for his maiden term in Rajya Sabha.
