Lucknow, Mar 15 (UNI) Paying glowing tributes to party ideologue Kanshiram on his 74th birth anniversary, Bahujan Samaj Party president and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today laid the foundation stones of a slew of projects worth Rs 283.14 crore dedicated to the late leader.
Describing achievements of late Kanshiram in the field of upliftment of dalits and backwards as 'landmark', Ms Mayawati told a gathering at an impressive function to mark the occasion that the various developmental projects were dedicated to him as mark of respect for one of the greatest leaders this country had produced.
The projects included 74 bridges worth Rs 215.26 crore and Rs 41 crore urban drinking water programme in 31 towns of the state.
Besides, Ms Mayawati laid foundation stone of Manyawar Kanshiram Paryavaran Bhawan at the estimated cost of Rs 22.50 crore and Manyawar Kanshiram Tourism Management Institute at the cost of Rs 4.38 crore.
The BSP leader also remembered Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Chatrapati Shahuji Maharaj, Narayana Guru and said their names would always be taken with utmost respect owing to their exemplery services for the cause of dalits and downtrodden classes.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Mayawati reminded the gathering that the state government had already announced Rs 500 crore Kanshiram Multi-speciality Hospital and Rs 300 crore Medical College at Saharanpur, besides Rs 100 crore Kanshiram Convention Centre and Kanshiram UP Institute of Technology.
Various artistes, vocalist, writers and students were given cash awards at cultural, social and competitive events on this occasion.
